Symposium on Assistance to Aircraft Accident Victims and their Families 2021-12-06

IPIAAM participated in the Symposium on Assistance to Aircraft Accident Victims and Their Families, hosted by the Government of Spain, which took place from December 1-3, 2021, in Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands.

The main objective of the meeting was to provide an overview of the regulatory framework related to the Symposium topic, as provided by Annex 9 - Facilitation and Annex 13 - Aircraft accident and incident investigation.

The Symposium was organized with the purpose of providing a unique opportunity to enhance international cooperation, exchange information, share experiences and best practices in both communication of sensitive information on aircraft accidents and in management of compesation by insurance companies, as well as defining the way forward for short, medium and long-term strategies.

Furthermore, Resolution A38-1, adopted by the 38th Session of the Assembly (A38), recognizes the need to provide assistance to victims and their families and urges States to "establish legislation, regulation and/or policies to support accident victims of civil aviation and their families”.

Several States were represented at the aforementioned event, through their relevant national authorities, air operators and airport managers, communication media, associations, and others relevant stakeholders.
