The Institute for the Prevention and Investigation of Aeronautical and Maritime Accidents (IPIAAM), promotes, in partnership with BAGAIA, the Aviation Safety Week which includes the workshop on the theme "Safety in Civil Aviation" and the 7th BAGAIA Commission Meeting, to be held from April 11th to 15th, at Hilton Cabo Verde Sal Resort, in the city of Santa Maria, island of Sal.

Aviation Safety Week intends to involve the entire aeronautical sector without distinction, with the aim of promoting debate, dialogue and creating synergies between the different stakeholders in the sector, on their role in safety of civil aviation, through the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

This meeting brings together on the island of Sal renowned specialists of the aeronautical industry at a regional and international level, with emphasis on the seven African countries that are members of Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA), namely Cabo Verde, Guinea Conakry, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, as well as the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), of the United States of America, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) represented by the Office for Central and West Africa (WACAF), the Office for the Prevention and Investigation of Aircraft Accidents and Railway Accidents (GPIAAF), from Portugal, foreign and national educational institutions, namely , the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and the Technical University of Atlântico (UTA), in addition to all the national players in the aeronautical sector.

For an efficient performance of IPIAAM in the aeronautical sector, the institution must promote a favorable environment throughout the civil aviation system, in particular, among operators, so that they recognize their importance and attributions in terms of accident prevention and promotion of aviation safety, which is a primary and common objective among all stakeholders belonging to the aeronautical sector.

With its foreseeable implantation in the civil aviation community as a periodic event of reference in the sector, the Aviation Safety Week could constitute a historic moment for the materialization of several objectives outlined for the aeronautical sector and, Cabo Verde being the country of headquarters of Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA), holding its 7th Meeting this week, aims to contribute positively to the international recognition of the sector.
